If you have ever been a victim of crime, you will know how much it harms people and relationships and can cause ripples throughout your life. However, there is a practice called restorative justice that aims to repair the harm caused and has borne many success stories. Restorative justice brings together the person most impacted by a crime with the person who committed it. The victim explains to the offender how much the crime has impacted their life - this helps them understand the repercussions of their crime and holds them accountable for the harm they have caused. Together, the victim and offender decide how to repair the harm caused, the offender finds a way to make amends, and - in many cases - both lives are transformed.
