This is footage of a Virtual Walk on the early evening of January 6, 2024 in Downtown Santa Monica, California at the 3rd Street Promenade and a segment of Ocean Avenue. The 3rd Avenue Promenade is a shopping, dining, entertainment, and residential area of Santa Monica popular among locals and tourists. This area is close to the Santa Monica Pier, Ocean Avenue, the Metro Light Rail Station, and is just off of the Fourth and Fifth Street Exits from the 110 Freeway. This was a very cool place to visit at one time before Covid. The energy of Los Angeles was much more abundant along this street and the pier and it may still be during the day! Santa Monica is still a must see on a visitors list of tourist attractions to visit in L.A. since it is just a hop to and from Hollywood, Sunset Boulevard, West Hollywood, Brentwood, Westwood, Beverly Hills, Venice Beach, Pacific Palisades, and Marina Del Rey cities within the County of Los Angeles. In June 2020 after the George Floyd verdicts were announced, this area experienced rioting and looting and a standoff with protestors on Ocean Boulevard involving a large law enforcement presence. The area was in such disarray that the National Guard was deployed to regain order. It is apparent that this event combined with the pandemic resulted in businesses choosing to relocate with many shops and restaurants and businesses never recapturing the foot traffic that was pre covid.
