In this video, I take you on a walking tour of Gyumri, the second-largest city in Armenia and a cultural and historical treasure. I start from Garegin Nzhdeh Avenue, which honors one of the most influential figures in modern Armenian history. He was a military leader, a politician, and a philosopher who fought for the independence and unity of Armenia in the 20th century. Along this avenue, you can see some of the most beautiful and elegant buildings in Gyumri, such as the Opera House, the Art Academy, and the Central Bank. You can also admire the statues of famous Armenian poets, writers, and artists who contributed to the cultural development of Gyumri and Armenia. I then reach Independence Square, the main square of Gyumri, where you can see the impressive City Hall, the Cathedral of the Holy Mother of God, and the statue of Vardan Mamikonyan, a national hero who fought against the Persians in the 5th century. From there, I continue to Sayat Nova Street, named after the famous Armenian poet and musician who composed songs in several languages. This street is full of life and charm, with many cafes, restaurants, shops, and galleries where you can enjoy the authentic flavors and hospitality of Gyumri. I also show you some of the historical and religious monuments that dot this street, such as the Church of St. Nshan, the Monument of Mother Armenia, and the Memorial of the Earthquake Victims. I then walk to Victory Park, a green oasis in the heart of Gyumri. This park is a popular place for locals and tourists alike to relax, have fun, and admire the panoramic views of the city and the mountains. You can also see some of the attractions that make this park unique, such as the Ferris Wheel, the Soviet Tank, and the Children’s Railway. I then go to Cathedral Of The Holy Martyrs, a magnificent church that was built in 2015 to commemorate the centennial of the Armenian Genocide. This church is one of the largest and most modern churches in Armenia, with a capacity of 3,000 people. It has stunning architecture that combines traditional Armenian elements with contemporary design. The church also has a museum that displays artifacts and documents related to the history and culture of Gyumri and Armenia. Finally, I ended my tour at the Museum of National Architecture and Urban Life, which is housed in one of the oldest and most preserved buildings in Gyumri. This museum showcases the rich and diverse architectural heritage of Gyumri, from ancient times to the present day. You can see how people lived in different periods of history, how they decorated their houses, what tools and crafts they used, and what traditions and customs they followed. The museum also hosts various exhibitions and events that promote the art and culture of Gyumri.
