The raid along the Combahee River was successful, and many enslaved people self-emancipated during the process. COMBEE is the winner of the 2025 Pulitzer Prize for History and the 2025 Gilder Lehrman Lincoln Prize. Edda L. Fields-Black is a professor in the department of History and the Director of the Dietrich College Humanities Center at Carnegie Mellon University.
