Sword and sorcery as a genre became what it is today because of the first Conan movie, and while the genre is filled with evil war lords fighting with swords and armies of henchmen, you must agree that the best kind of bad guys are ones that are cosmic in nature, and they get even better when they have some Levecraftian elements tied to them. But how did these Lovecraftian elements find their way into Conan stories? Well, the explanation goes back as far as 1930. Both Lovecraft and Conan’s creator Robert E Howard were veteran writers for the magazine Weird Tales. One day, Howard wrote a letter to Weird Tales, praising one of Lovecraft’s reprint of H. P. Lovecraft's "The Rats in the Walls", editor Farnsworth Wright forwarded this letter to Lovecraft, who responded with affection to Howard and the two of them became fast friends, so much so that the latter would get included in the so-called Lovecraft Circle. And from that day, the two writers, especially Howard, would reference Lovecraft’s work into his own and they would often borrow elements mutually. I mean, take beings like Set for example, the serpent god, he’s so powerful that he’s practically unkillable and all you can do is hope he does not come to Earth. But there are like several other such instances where you see cosmic and Lovecraftian villains in Howard stories, a.k.a. Conan stories, and in this video, we are gonna explore the 19 major Conan The Barbarian's Cosmic Villains Who Will Bend Your Mind And Your Reality. So, let’s begin, shall we? #conan #barbarian #swordandsorcery
