Naimisharanya is an ancient, sacred site in Uttar Pradesh, India, considered one of the holiest places in Hinduism and a significant pilgrimage destination. It is known as a primordial forest of wisdom where many Hindu scriptures were narrated, including the Mahabharata and Puranas. It is one of the Divya Desams, the 108 temples of Vishnu revered in Nalayira Divya Prabandham by the 12 poet saints called the Alvars, specifically Thirumangai Azhvar. Technically the whole city is considered a divya desam, not just the temple. Naimisharanya is also significant for its connection to Maharishi Ved Vyas, the sage credited with composing the four Vedas, the Mahabharata, and the 18 Puranas. The site known as Vyas Gaddi is located in Naimisharanya and is believed to be the ancient banyan tree where Ved Vyas imparted his spiritual wisdom to his disciples.
