Should I Stay? Immigrant Song Aki Kumar From New Album "God Bless the USA https://akikumar.com/.../god-bless-th... ** Aki Kumar – Outstanding And Pioneering Blues Directions ** Aki Kumar – God Bless The U.S.A. – Little Village Foundation LVF 1072 Aki Kumar may not be a household name to many blues fans, though his supreme recorded output and celebrated “live” performances strongly suggest that he needs to be on the radar of all blues fans. This collection is yet more proof of Kumar’s greatly enriching musical talent. This is Kumar’s third release for the Little Village Foundation label behind Aki Goes To Bollywood and Hindi Man Blues. And what Kumar has done here is resplendent in that he has magnificently fulfilled that perilously difficult prophecy of daring to be ground-breaking in his musical conceptualizations within the blues, a genre that for many should firmly stick to its bread-and-butter frameworks. Those who apply themselves to the narrow confines of “the old-tried-and-true” need not seek joy here; they wont “get it.” While Kumar has astounding blues sensibilities and broadly gratifying blues harmonica and vocal skill sets, his is an invigorating meld of all his musical inputs, those that sometimes rebel against many blues labels. San Jose, California’s ruling “King Of Bollywood Blues Music,” as many refer to Kumar, lands squarely on the trailblazing periphery of blues music, one that is unafraid to revolutionize with textures and sounds. This is truly awe-inspiring musicmaking in a time when so much that is delivered is the “same-old, same-old.” It takes veracity to follow one’s blues imaginings, and Kumar is leading by example through staying true to the blues art form but also incorporating inimitable and personal sensibilities within it. The majority of the dazzling music found here comes from Kumar’s pen; a rare and welcome instance, for sure. Surrounding Kumar and his terrific vocals, harmonica shadings, and other contributions are a stellar cast of musical associates including Bob Welsh on guitar (but also with a piano input), bass man Randy Burmudes, drummer June Core, along with other superb backers, some who provide very interesting musical touches with instruments not often heard on blues tracks such as the tabla, khanjira, and sitar. As with all Little Village Foundation collections, engineering and sound is top-flight. This is supremely hefty, profound blues seldom made in the modern-day blues arena. This is unconditionally recommended blues as superbly delivered by a modern-day practitioner! This belongs in your collection! Bravo, Little Village Foundation for yet again shining a bright light on another exciting artist who may otherwise not be heard and rightfully recognized for his grand talent! https://curtsblues.com/
