Duke of Edinburgh's Award at Derwen College Team Silver 2025 --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award is recognised nationally and is the world’s leading youth achievement award. It gives participants the chance to develop skills for life and work, fulfil their potential and have a brighter future. Each section of the award gives the students an opportunity to be independent, to grow in confidence and to be challenged as an individual – something we actively promote at Derwen College. Derwen College was the first provider in Shropshire to run the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award for a group of participants with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and we are currently in the eleventh year of running the programme which has brought exciting opportunities for a growing number of students. The College began offering the award in September 2014 with 11 students registering for the Bronze Award. In 2018, Derwen College was pleased to be awarded ‘Directly Licensed Centre’ status which allows the College to run the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award programme as a licensed organisation. In March this year, Derwen College had the honour of welcoming His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh to Gobowen campus. His Royal Highness toured our Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Outdoor Centre, where students showcased some of the skills they’ve developed through the Bronze, Silver and Gold Awards.
