Lecture for Building & Construction Technology at UMass Amherst, given by Peter Levy, Principal of GreenEngineers. This talk offers an overview of the role that energy modeling plays in the design of buildings; including discussions about how energy models are used to inform design, pursue LEED (and other) certifications, procure utility incentives, and demonstrate code compliance. Additionally, how daylight modeling is used to optimize daylight opportunities, mitigate glare problems, and pursue LEED certification. Mr. Levy began working as a sustainable design consultant, specializing in energy modeling, at the Green Engineer in Concord MA.In addition to his academic credentials, Mr.Levy is a Certified Building Energy Modeler ProfessionalLEED APCertifiedPassive House ConsultantDuring his tenure at GreenEngineers, where he is now a principal, Mr. Levy has worked on dozens of energy models for purposes of LEEDCertificationCode ComplianceUtility Incentives and quantification of sustainable design purposes. LEARNING OBJECTIVES 1.How are energy models used to inform design and perform cost analysis? 2.How are energy models used for LEED, utility incentives, and code purposes? 3.How do modeling requirements differ between LEED, code, utilities? 4.What are the necessary elements of an accurate energy model?
