With gifts of meaning, pure and true, They knelt before the Child anew.” Today, we reflect on the Magi’s gifts—gold, frankincense, and myrrh—and how they symbolize our call to offer our very best to Christ. The Gospel of Matthew tells us that wise men from the East followed a star until it led them to Bethlehem. They entered the house, saw the Child with Mary His mother, and bowed down in worship. Then they opened their treasures and presented Him with gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh. These were not ordinary gifts. Each carried deep spiritual meaning, pointing to the mystery of who Christ is and what He came to do. The Meaning of the Gifts 1. Gold – A Gift for a King o Gold symbolizes royalty and honor. It acknowledges Jesus as the King of Kings, worthy of our highest devotion. For us, offering gold means giving Christ the best of our lives—our talents, our time, our priorities. 2. Frankincense – A Gift for God o Frankincense was used in worship, rising like prayer to heaven. It recognizes Jesus as divine, the Son of God. For us, offering frankincense means lifting our prayers, our worship, and our hearts to Him daily. 3. Myrrh – A Gift for Sacrifice o Myrrh was used for anointing and burial, foreshadowing Christ’s suffering and death. It acknowledges Jesus as Savior, who would give His life for us. For us, offering myrrh means embracing sacrifice—living with humility, carrying our crosses, and uniting our struggles with Christ. Offering Our Best to Christ Today The Magi remind us that true worship is not about convenience, but about sacrifice and devotion. We may not bring gold, frankincense, or myrrh, but we can bring our faith, love, and service. We can offer Christ our time in prayer, our acts of charity, and our commitment to holiness. The best gift we can give Him is our heart, surrendered in love. Let us Seek Christ earnestly – like the Magi, let us follow the light of faith. Worship Christ humbly – bow before Him with reverence and love. Offer Christ generously – give Him not leftovers, but the best of who we are. In doing so, our lives become treasures laid before the manger. Let us pray: “Lord Jesus, like the Magi we come before You. Accept our gifts of love, prayer, and sacrifice. Teach us to offer our best, To honor You as King, to worship You as God, and to follow You as Savior . Maranatha! Come, Lord Jesus!” May the Magi’s gifts inspire us to give Christ the best of our lives, so that our worship may be true and our love sincere.
