Rock not Racism! A 'Love Music Hate Racism' event in Chesterfield, December 2025 Rock Against Racism was a major music and cultural movement in the 1970s and 1980s to combat the rise of racism in the UK, launched after an initial suggestion by David Bowie and Eric Clapton. We see the rise once again of far-right parties that seek to scapegoat refugees, immigrants and people of colour for the economic and social problems that many are facing in the UK. Music is once again at the forefront of the fightback. Its message is clear: there is far more that unites us than divides us, and blaming poor and marginalised communities is not the answer. This event was staged in Chesterfield, in the UK, featuring local bands and bringing together local people in a celebration of music. It's just one of many activities 'Stand Up to Racism' has organised.
