The Constitution of Kenya Amendment Bill 2020 proposes to amend Article 82 of the constitution on Legislation on elections and give parliament a leeway to enact legislation imposing sanctions on a political party that fails to ensure that the party’s list of nominated candidates comply with the principle that not more than one-thirds of such candidates are of the same gender. In tonight’s segment of the constitutional review, our reporter Ben Chumba looks into the amendments expected to facilitate the actualization of the gender rule in the electoral process.
