Portland Mayor Keith Wilson has been on the job for nearly nine months. How is the city doing since he took office? KATU’s Angelica Thornton sat down with Wilson for a one-on-one interview, asking him about the big issues the city is facing. Much of the conversation was focused on homelessness. She asked the mayor to give KATU a progress report on his big promise to end unsheltered homelessness by the end of his first year in office. It is an ambitious goal; one that he only has three months left to accomplish. Wilson said clearing derelict RVs will help the city reach that goal. “Those individuals right now, Angelica, they're suffering. They're living in mold, in carbon monoxide. In gray and black and brown water and the sanitation issues,” Wilson said. “We have got to bring them in.” Among the many topics they covered, Wilson was asked about the threats from President Donald Trump to send federal troops to Portland. “We cannot get brought into the national narrative. We've got to take care of what we can control. We will not take the bait. But it’s our time to care for Portland, and all Portlanders,” Wilson said.
