Full journey from Wick to Thurso along the northern section of the Far North Line in the Scottish Highlands on board a 4 carriage (2+2) class 158 Express Sprinter train. This journey was filmed on Friday 8th July 2022 on the 0618 Wick to Inverness service which called at Georgemas Junction on this part of the route between Wick and Thurso. Skip to: Wick (WCK) (depart) 01:05 Georgemas Junction (GGJ) 17:15 Thurso (THS) 29:19 Note that this journey calls at the 3 northernmost railway stations in Great Britain with Thurso being the furthest north on the national rail network. Due to being 4 hours away from Inverness this is one of the most isolated parts of the rail network. Services on this route usually operate 4 times a day in each direction with services roughly every 2-4 hours depending on the time of day and direction. Services on the Far North Line all serve Georgemas Junction twice on each journey as services reverse both at Thurso and Georgemas Junction to allow for both Wick and Thurso to be served by the same trains with Wick being the terminus for all services on this route. All services operate via Thurso to Inverness except where some very delayed services will skip Thurso. Connections are available at Inverness to Highland Main Line services to Edinburgh and Glasgow Queen Street via Perth and towards Aberdeen. There are also daily services available from Inverness to London Euston on the Caledonian Sleeper and London Kings Cross on LNER. There are connections at Dingwall towards Kyle of Lochalsh. The rolling stock used on this route is entirely 2 carriage class 158 Express Sprinter trains which are operated on some services in pairs to form 4 carriage services. There are plans to replace the class 158 with new build trains in the future. This section of the far north line is single track with a few sidings available around Georgemas Junction for freight services. This route is unelectrified with all services being diesel operated.
