It's the ideal way to give your Marshall and many other amplifiers the extra gain you need that is a 100% pure tube gain stage. But the Mr. Scary Mod is not just about "adding more gain" to all amps. It can also be used to fine-tune higher gain amplifiers for a significantly tighter response. The idea here is you first dial in the sweet spot of the preamp gain of your amp (the Friedman Runt is being used here) before the amp gets too loose and then use the Mr. Scary mod to add back in the sustain.
