Originally written as a five-movement work for piano (1922), From the Northland is an impressionistic portrait of the sights and sounds Sowerby experienced on a trip around the Lake Superior and Lake Huron country. The composer orchestrated four of the movements a couple years later, leaving out the third movement ("The Lonely Fiddle Maker") as suggested by Howard Hanson. This is the original piano music. Although he is mostly remembered for his excellent works for organ, I am confident that his much wider range of sterling compositions will reach their deserved revival in the concert halls in time. You can help make that happen by sharing this with others. Performed by Steven Graff The recording can be purchased from Centaur Records here: http://www.centaurrecords.com/search_...
