The short-lived Second Czechoslovak Republic, also known as Czechoslovakia II, was a state that existed from October 1938 until March 1939. It was formed after the dismemberment of Czechoslovakia following the Munich Agreement of September 1938, which allowed Nazi Germany to annex the Sudetenland, a German-speaking region of Czechoslovakia. The Second Czechoslovak Republic was left with only a small part of its original territory, and was surrounded by Nazi Germany to the west, Hungary to the south, and Poland to the north. The country was weakened both economically and militarily, and its survival was uncertain. In March 1939, Hitler ordered the German army to occupy the rest of Czechoslovakia, effectively ending the Second Czechoslovak Republic. The Czechoslovak government was forced to surrender, and the country was officially dissolved.
