This video is a performance by one of the finest female Gambian artists, and she contributed to our Starfish International Fundraising Festival 3.0 by doing a Mandinka piece. She performed a song connected to a well-known Mandinka folktale believed to be a true story in the early days of African Empires, and the folktale is known as, "Saba Minoyamba". Saba Miyomba in the Mandinka language means the big python. At Starfish, we always try to learn about our roots because we believe knowing where we come from will positively influence how far we can go.
