Cooking in the Middle Ages reflected the profound social inequalities that marked the period from the 5th to the 15th century. During this long period, medieval society was divided into three great orders: nobility, clergy and peasants. Each of these groups had its own eating habits, influenced by social position, access to resources and religious obligations. While the nobility feasted on meat, game and precious spices, the peasants were content with more modest meals based on bread, vegetables and legumes. Dietary differences thus reflect social hierarchies and reinforce class distinctions. The aim of this video is to delve into the specifics of medieval cuisine, exploring not only the ingredients that made up meals at the time, but also the preparation techniques, the utensils used, and the food culture specific to each social class.
