How to identify iron deficiency symptoms and magnesium deficiency symptoms in plants and how to treat them. The most common nutrient problem associated with chlorosis is lack of iron, but yellowing may also be caused by manganese, zinc, or nitrogen deficiencies. One way to separate iron deficiency from other deficiencies is to determine what foliage turned yellow first, if its on the new leaves then its iron deficiency and if its on the older leaves then its magnesium deficiency. Iron deficiency symptoms only shown in new leaves as a sign of yellow leaves and green veins. If iron deficiency is shown in the leaves then one must check soil pH first because if soil pH is high then iron will lock/bond in soil and plants can not able to intake. If soil pH is below 7 then chelated iron could be use to overcome the iron deficiency. Magnesium deficiency symptoms are seen first on older leaves as a yellowing (chlorosis) from the leaf tip and along the midrib, whilst the edges remain green. Epsom Salt (Magnesium Sulphate) spray/Soil drenching method could be use to overcome the magnesium deficiency symptoms.
