Laurence Dickie is known to audiophiles around the world for his design of the Bowers & Wilkins Nautilus loudspeaker, which debuted in 1993 and is still made today, and the complete range of Vivid Audio speakers, which initially came to market in 2004 with the B1. He cofounded Vivid Audio with Philip Guttentag. In our previous video, Doug Schneider talked to Laurence Dickie about his tapered-tube technology to capture unwanted rearward energy from drive units to produce a clearer sound. Laurence also demonstrated how it works. What this video explores is how Laurence deals with capturing the energy from the woofers, which requires an extremely long tapered tube—much longer than the ones that go behind the tweeters and midranges in his company’s speakers. As you’ll learn, the ingenious step was to use the cabinet itself as a tapered tube. Watch this video to learn more.
