Sensō-ji is Tokyo’s oldest and most famous Buddhist temple, located in the Asakusa district. It’s one of Japan’s most visited spiritual sites and a major cultural landmark, blending traditional spirituality with vibrant city life. Senso Ji temple premises features 1. Kaminarimon (Thunder Gate) The grand outer gate with a massive red lantern (3.9m tall). Flanked by statues of Fūjin (god of wind) and Raijin (god of thunder). It’s the iconic symbol of Asakusa and the temple. 2. Nakamise-dōri Street A lively shopping street (approx. 250 meters) leading from Kaminarimon to the main hall. Lined with traditional shops selling souvenirs, sweets, kimonos, snacks, and crafts. 3. Hōzōmon (Treasure House Gate) Inner gate housing giant straw sandals and Buddhist scriptures. Leads directly into the temple precinct. 4. Main Hall (Kannon-dō) Dedicated to Kannon Bosatsu (Avalokiteśvara). Legend says the statue of Kannon was fished out of the Sumida River by two brothers in 628 AD. The current hall was rebuilt in 1958 after being destroyed in World War II. 5. Five-Story Pagoda A striking red structure next to the main hall, reconstructed in 1973. Houses sacred relics of the Buddha. 6. Asakusa Shrine (Shintō) Adjacent to Sensō-ji, this shrine honors the three men who founded the temple. Built in 1649 by Tokugawa Iemitsu. #sensojitemple #tokyo #hindivlogs #japan #freeentry
