For those of you who stuck around during my marathon filming sessions of Penny Arcade's you're about to be rewarded handsomely. That's right, FINALLY - I bring to you the latest edition of This Old Gat - covering the often mislabeled but commonly known rifle the Type 38 "Arisaka." The rifle is actually a continuation of improvements and upgrades by one Kijirō Nambu (南部 麒次郎) of semi-auto pistol fame. This particular rifle was produced for 29 years before the release of the Type 99 九九式短小銃 short rifle. The Type 30, 35, and this type 38 were all chambered in 6.5x50 Japanese Arisaka round. High speed, and flat shooting, this particular 6.5 round might be considered by today's standards to be the first true "intermediate" cartridge. What started out as "just a couple little odds and ends" to do on this rifle, pleasantly turned out to be a full day event of inspection, conservation, and restoration. Even the little jobs can sometimes take half a day to finish when you're trying to be meticulous and careful to leave it in as good or better than you found it condition without looking like you were ever in there. I'm proud to say that my butt-stock plate repair may be the first of its kind around here on YouTube and hopefully it will be useful to other more accredited gunsmiths out there as a much more solid, professional, and very permanent type of fix. If you'd like to get the Dowels or Bit used in today's video, you can find them both on Amazon here : Miller 40-pack Walnut Stepped Dowels : https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00... Miller Tru-Fit Stepped Drill Bit : https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00... Hopefully I was clear on the process, and encourage you all to try it in your current or future repairs. It really makes for one rock-solid fix and I'm confident the repair will last as long as the original without any abuse. So, with that said, it's time to sit back, relax, and enjoy the show. I hope you enjoy watching it as much as I enjoyed making and sharing with you all today. Stay tuned for more This Old Gat's as well as Pwnery's Reloading Bench, gun and gear reviews, and yes - more Penny Arcades as well. The next episode of ToG is a toss-up between a French basket-case I recently acquired, and something a little more .... Mausery? Not sure which I'll do first, but it should be entertaining to say the least. Side-bar : While I don't do these for monetary gain, this project, hobby, and channel has become quite pricey to produce. If you're out there CH4D (or any other tool or die manufacturer), and are open to sponsoring a channel like mine for shows like this in the form of dies to keep these old girls running, or if you're a retailer like a Collectors Firearms type shop like I have in my city and want to donate a fixer-upper for the series, I'd gladly take you on - just a thought :) Note : I do not do these videos for any monetary gain thanks to the "unique" changes YouTube has made in their requirements for monetized content, and have maintained procedural information as close as possible in line with their new guidelines as well. I do these videos for solely for the spread of information, and maybe a little notoriety in my often-infringed upon community.
