Two Blind Sisters See for the First Time | PicBusters

Look closely, if you look into the faces of these two girls then you can already guess that this is a very special moment. How enchanted the two girls seem by the simple grass in our PicBuster; for the two girls these plants are an absolute miracle because this photo shows the first moment the sisters Anita and Sonja were able to see the world through their own eyes. Until that day both were blind; since their birth the six and twelve-year-old Indian children had suffered from cataracts. This is how the world looks to them... Like them, there are about 20,000,000 children and adults in the world suffering this condition. Many of them could get their eyesight back through a simple operation, and although that operation costs just $300 for the poor rural population of India, this amount is a small fortune. For us it is almost inconceivable that the state does not help these families. Surgery would give the children a much better life and they would even have the chance of a good education; instead they have to endure their existence as beggars, or another mouth to feed, who cannot contribute themselves. But Anita and Sonja can escape their fate; they are two of 40,000 blind people who a New York charity organization pledged to give their sight back. Twenty Twenty Twenty is the name of the organization that trains doctors in the poorest areas of the world to perform on-site operations; the organization is funded exclusively by donations. When it's finally time for the two girls the operation lasts just fifteen minutes, after which they have one more night to leave the bandages on their eyes, then the next morning the big moment comes.
