Lower Devil's Canyon Narrows near Cogswell Reservoir and the West Fork of the San Gabriel River

Since I recently found out the Cogswell Reservoir was accessible (this hasn't always been the case), I decided to explore the lower narrows of Devils Canyon on Sunday. I started jogging in the morning along the West Fork San Gabriel River National Scenic Bike Path stopping at Butterfield Canyon to refill water before making my way across Cogswell Dam to fire road out to Devil's Canyon. Devil's Canyon was pretty dry until the narrows section, which is where I started to see pools. Most were quite shallow, but harbored quite a bit of wildlife such as rainbow trout, some other sucker fish and quite a few water snakes (some sort of garter snake). I found a ~5 foot deep pool, which was really nice and relaxing. I went up the narrow to where the water stopped flowing and the turned back to enjoy the deep pool more, which had a bunch of trout. It was neat exploring this area. I have read that there is a nice pool maybe ~2 miles further up but if I do that, I'd like to go in the spring when there is more flow. I jogged back across Cogswell dam and along the West Fork Bike Path to where I parked, but I decided to cool off twice in the rive. It was a hot day for jogging peaking in the 90s F, but I've been here when it hotter. If you explore these areas, be careful in the heat, If you wanted to do this and save time, you could bike this a good ways. You'd have to do it on the weekend. I know that the dam is open on Sundays from this week and last week, but it could be open on Saturdays too (I have not idea). Anyways, I love the Angeles National Forest and the San Gabriel Mountains. It was fun to jog or run and the hike or bushwhack to the narrows. I may take things down, obscure locations, or remove data upon request as I have done in the past, but a lot of the places I visit are less well known (because I'm exploring), so I could potentially be removing everything if I did things the other way around, which I don't want to do. I change my mind about what I keep secret on my own, but if we talk, I am much less likely to jeopardize my integrity than change my mind. There are a few secrets I don't share with people because I agree to keep these spots on the down low (even when I have heard about them through different parties before visiting).
