One of my favorite bands of 2020!!! They had released a pummeling demo and an LP that practically shits nails and wipes with razor blades! Their follow up LP is fucking AMAZING and I can't for the vinyl to hurry up and get here!! Any way, they had released a statement regarding their name change, and honestly, I think it's a better fit. From the band: Announcement time: We’ve changed our name! Now we are JALANG (formerly Lái 来) Jalang is one of those “odd” word in Bahasa Indonesia; when applies to masculine figures — it means “wild, feral, undomesticated” ; while for feminine figures it automatically translate as “whores // slut” — obviously a riddiculous (:sexist) cultural fact that we want to reclaim! We can relate to any of the meanings anyway. Plus, “Jalang” was also one of our song from our Pontianak LP, that was inspired by a poem made by an Indonesian anti colonial poet; Chairil Anwar. When we humored ourselves and googled it in English, alas for the lack of any good translation, it also translate as “Bitch Organism” 😂 which we also think is quite apt for us.
