The church in Castelletto traces its origins back to the Middle Ages, as the first church is mentioned in a notarial deed of 988. The building was extended at the end of the 13th century, when it was the only parish in the area. The village was of great importance, so much so that it housed many Dominican monks in the 14th century, when the land belonged to the central monastery in Milan. Towards the end of the 15th century, the monks had the large convent built so as to accommodate a larger number of religious. Castelletto's prestige grew in the 16th century, when it became a fief of the Clerici marquises. The parish church was entirely rebuilt at the beginning of the 17th century, while on 10 December 1652 Pope Innocent X suppressed all the small convents, which included the medieval one in Castelletto. The property was forfeited to the parish of Cuggiono, which had the elegant Baroque façade enriched with a Renaissance bas-relief installed. b' - c'' sharp - d'' sharp One of the doors opening onto the altar leads inside the slender Baroque bell tower, which in its lines traces the bell tower of the old church of Cuggiono. Steep stairs lead up to the belfry, embellished in 1911 by the casting of a concert of three bells in the musical scale of B major made by the Ottolina foundry. The same foundry was called in 1931 to recast the smaller bell, which had been rendered unusable due to a crack at the strike point. The bells ring festively for the entrance of the new parish priest, who arrives on a beautiful afternoon bathed in autumn colours. The interior houses Renaissance and Baroque furnishings, such as the precious paintings next to the marble high altar. The chancel houses a valuable pipe organ from 1850, made by the Prestinari company of Magenta. The old monastery was restored in the 20th century to host cultural meetings. In the film L'albero degli zoccoli (The Tree of Wooden Clogs), director Ermanno Olmi shot some scenes where the bride and groom sail under the beautiful stone bridge built in the 18th century. #church #catholic #bells #cinematic #culture #bell #italy #goldenhour #catholicchurch #sunset #autumn #colors
