Yamaha MX49 Great Little Synth, presented by Rev. Michael D. Mowery, 14 February 2026. The Yamaha MX49 (released in August 2016) is a great little synthesizer with an excessively high price. The middle C key (C4) is not in the middle of the keyboard where it belongs but can be easily moved with the octave button. My Yamaha MX49 ($650), which I purchased on 22 January 2026, does not fully function with the included Cubase AI 15 DAW. So, I had to spend more money and upgrade to Steinberg Cubase Elements 15 ($100). It's a bit of a baiting scam. Cubase Pro 15 should be included free of charge with Yamaha keyboards, instead of the junky AI and LE editions. Then you'll need to spend even more money to buy a two-thousand-dollar computer to run the software. The Yamaha MODX M6/M7/M8 ($1800 to $2500) are also overpriced keyboards with junky software. Just stay away from Yamaha keyboards that include Steinberg, author of the intrusive iLok software. My Yamaha PSR-EW425 (76 key), priced at $500, is much better. Good keyboards don't include junk with their keyboards. Great keyboards should include great software. I also own a Yamaha DGX-670 digital piano. This MX49 is my last Yamaha keyboard.
