The Panzerkampfwagen VI Tiger (Sd.Kfz.181) was a heavy / breakthrough tank designed by Germany during World War II as a direct response to Allied tanks such as the Char B1 Bis, Matilda, KV-1, and T-34. Mounting an 88mm cannon, it was quite potent when used against both tanks and fortifications. Its 100mm of frontal armor accompanied by substantial side armor made the Tiger a difficult tank to take out for the most part, though it was flawed. The Tiger suffered from a number of mechanical issues, both inherent in design and due to a lack of spare parts. Due to its unreliability, the Tiger was largely unable to capitalize on its successes, and as newer Allied tanks came onto the field, it quickly became outgunned.
