A step by step guide to setting up a basic Central American planted display tank. I have used a low tech approach using less demanding plants, however Eleocharis acicularis (Hairgrass) will probably benefit with bright light and a little c02 injection? Archocentrus multispinosus (Rainbow cichlids) are used in this display as they are completely suitable for hardy planted aquaria. I have also added a trio of platy, purely as dithers to relax the Rainbow cichlids. All three plants can be found in many Costa Rica waterways, however Eleocharis acicularis are usually found in muddy, bog areas rather than clear flowing lakes and streams, so this display is far from a strict biotope. I hope you like the display as it is quite easy to do and a good project for anyone who would like to get into centrals, but without sacrificing their love of planted aquaria.
