From my studio-office in Vermont, my first NPR Tiny Desk submission. I wrote this song, about fathers and sons, 10 years ago, long before I became a dad. I tape it now, amid frozen winter and a foot of perma-snow, in a few stolen moments as my youngest naps. -- Originally I wrote this song for a play with music called Cry Eden, about the Cain and Abel story. I play it frequently in my shows. It's meaningful to me as an expression both of fatherhood and son-hood. -- Tommy Crawford is an actor, theater artist, singer, songwriter, and composer. He believes music and theater have the power to help us see each other and come together. From the silly to the gut-punching, his songs go for the head and the heart, drawing from deep wells of American folk, indie, and roots music. With "extraordinary heart" and "brilliant music" (Valley News), his original musical The Vermont Farm Project was awarded Broadway World Regional's Best New Musical or Play. Seven Days VT praises him as an "engaging songwriter and talented multi-instrumentalist." With his NYC band The Lobbyists, he's written “marvelous” (NY Times), “terrific” (New Yorker), and “enchanting” (Entertainment Weekly) music and was nominated for a Drama Desk Award alongside Sara Bareilles and Steve Martin. As an actor, Tommy performs on stages around the country. Tommy plays original music around VT and beyond. In 2021, he and his wife moved to VT, where they are raising their two young children. #nprtinydesk #nprmusic #folk
