Big Foot Food Forest is a new farm in Montague, MA (Nipmuc, Pocumtuc & Wabanaki Ancestral homelands) established in 2019, that focuses on closed loop and regenerative/permaculture methods of farming tree crops, mushrooms, chickens and sheep. Big Food Food Forest is one out of 6 farmers in a NOFA/Mass Agroforestry Cohort where novice and mentor farmers share strategies & receive soil technical assistance from NOFA/Mass, and design assistance from Regenerative Design Group, funded by MDAR. In this video, you'll follow Babette's innovative strategies to produce nutritious food and fine tune on-farm systems. Some of these include her cozy, productive and multi-functional chicken coop, their plans to install a chicken food forest where chickens graze under mulberry, crab apple and persimmons, and her process of planting young nut trees in particularly sandy soil using "fertility islands" where they graze their sheep.
