India’s digital economy has been expanding rapidly, and with it, organisations are facing a new wave of AI-driven threats. In this environment, zero trust has become less of a concept and become a survival strategy. In conversation with ET Edge Insights, Vishal Gautam, Vice President and Site Managing Director at Zscaler, explained how the company is helping businesses strengthen security by checking every connection, every time. He described zero trust as the principle of “no implicit trust, always verify,” a clear departure from older tools like firewalls and VPNs that were designed for a different era. This shift reflects how technology and work itself have changed from mobile access and cloud services to the rise of AI, he added. At Zscaler, artificial intelligence reviews more than 500 billion online transactions each day to spot unusual activity and tighten security automatically. Still, Gautam said the biggest obstacle is people’s reluctance to let go of familiar systems. Once adopted, however, zero trust brings simpler systems, stronger protection, and a safer digital future.
