Sometimes you have to think outside the box and this is one of those times. I even considered using Bathfans under the soffit areas for ventilation. Not a bad idea, but probably not the most economical way either. There are many things that effect temperature and humidity in attics. The Hot & Humid season creates stress to shingles and puts a huge thermal load on the dwelling. The Cold & Humid season makes your attic system vulnerable to mold. Storing boxes and paper products in attics can provide a food source for mold and pests. FYI: Ridge Vents may pose a pest threat due to no screens. Its my professional opinion that attics in the deep south should be mechanically vented in most cases. The best performing attic systems I have evaluated are "properly" encapsulated spray foamed attics. However, some pest control companies will not bond a house with spray foam.
