TheAthleteSpine - Guest: Ja’Leah Williams On this episode of TheAthleteSpine, we are honored to bring on Ja’Leah Williams, who is a sophomore guard for the University of Miami Women’s Basketball Team (coming off a run to the Elite 8 in this year’s NCAA Tournament). She went viral after ESPN showcased her 67 degree scoliosis and subsequent T2-L2 fusion as a junior in high school during March Madness. After 6 months of painful rehab and recovery... Ja'Leah has returned to play in REMARKABLE FORM! During that same high school junior year, she scored 27 points in a win over her school’s biggest rival and was named her conference player of the year. The next year, as a high school senior, she led her team to their first state championship in 30 years. As a freshman at the University of Miami, her accomplishments continued on and off the court: ACC All-Freshman Team Bob Bradley Spirit and Courage Award Recipient 2022 ACC All-Academic Team. This year, as a sophomore, she is now a consistent starter and leader for a team playing that fought their way to their first ELITE EIGHT appearance! She shares her experience of learning about her diagnosis, undergoing surgery, and the arduous recovery that followed. Ja’Leah provides valuable insight on what kept her motivated during those painful times and gives advice to other young girls who are facing the same potential surgery that she underwent! WE CONTINUE TO CHEER JA’LEAH ON!! #scoliosis #AIS #spinesurgery #universityofmiami #jaleahwilliams #spinefusion #basketball #marchmadness
