He recognizes the Lord as the one upheld by the Vedas and the sustainer of the universe. Realizing this profound truth, He declares that he has given up his own personal rituals, understanding that all worship ultimately culminates in surrender to the Lord alone. The song expresses humility, devotion, and complete self-surrender to the divine protector. Are you not the one upheld and praised by the Vedas? Are you not the one who bears the sacred thread of the universe (the sustainer of the cosmic order)? Realizing that you are indeed that very Lord, the One praised by this Tyagaraja who, in order to do good for others, willingly accepted even unfavorable destinies for yourself, performing them for the benefit of those who have conquered their worldly desires, the silent sages devoted to austerity, and the disciplined ascetics, and knowing that your feet are the refuge of all who seek shelter in you, and that You are the ultimate fruit, the very nectar of life itself, I (Thyagaraja) have abandoned even my own cherished ritualistic worship, for everything culminates only in you. O great protector of all who supplicate, please protect me. -------------------------------------------------------------------- DISCLAIMER: These songs have been uploaded solely for listening pleasure and as an archive to preserve Carnatic music.
