Wepener – A Town Located on the Lesotho Border! Ep 209

It’s amazing when one enters a town you can immediately sense the vibe and Wepener was no different. The first garage we saw was closed down and then upon entering the main road, the first building we came across, was the absolutely gorgeous Wepener Town Hall, but it was unfortunately completely destroyed. We found out later that there was a fire a few years ago which caused so much damage to this building. It was truly a sad sight to see a spectacular building built in 1927 in this condition! The Wepener Hotel was not in a great condition either and so many other places were just destroyed and abandoned as well. In other parts of the town again the houses looked great and the churches also were in good condition. Not to mention the Lord Fraser Guest House where we spent the night, this place is a true oasis. It was fantastic to stay there and the food was awesome too, we couldn’t have asked for more.
