Honinbo Dosaku vs. Yasui Santetsu Ⅱ Dōsaku was one of the greatest Go players in history. He was born in the Iwami Province of Japan and studied Go in the Honinbō school, becoming Meijin at a young age. It has been suggested that the true level of his playing strength was never really tested, given the distance between him and his nearest rivals. Dōsaku is also well remembered for his contributions to Go theory. He took advantage of overconcentration also known as korigatachi, making that henceforth one of the key theoretical errors that players avoided. Tewari analysis, a systematic tool of analysis of efficiency of sequences, is also attributed to him. Yasui Santetsu Ⅱwas one of Dosaku`s rivals, playing with White against Dosaku at first, and eventually taking a one-stone handicap. He was a prominent Go player, finally promoting to 7-dan. However, he became more famous as the astronomer who introduced the Jokyo calendar in 1684, improving accuracy by adjusting calculations for solar and lunar positions. His work was supported by Edo-period scholars and officials, establishing him as the first official astronomer of the Tokugawa Shogunate. He retired from Go in 1685 to focus entirely on astronomy and was granted samurai status, changing his name to Shibukawa Harumi.
