Thoughts: Satan is an interesting game that reminds me a bit of Capcom's Black Tiger which was released two years prior. Satan star a barbarian warrior who battles demonic hordes in a place called the Palace of Clouds located in Hell as he seeks out three scroll to become magically endowed enough to become a warlock to confront Satan himself. The MSX version is the original version. Satan is split into two parts. The other part is accessed by loading the other data cassette tape. You can do this without loading the first one however except the game prompts you with a password. Anyways the gameplay with the first part is very reminiscent of Black Tiger. You platform and climb up pillars, However there are no shops in Satan and your barbarian can shoot fireballs which can be upgraded which I don't remember you could do in Black Tiger. It seems like the second part has you play as a wizard, but I'm not super sure. You can upgrade your fireball to a spread shot and there are health ups as well. The scrolling is pretty choppy in Satan and the jumping is frustrating especially when your trying to go from pillar to pillar. Other than that though Satan is an interesting game that saw release on a broad list of 8-bit and 16-bit computers including MSDOS. I didn't spend too much time with Satan, but it was an interesting experience. I only played the MSX and ZX Spectrum versions and I will say that the Spectrum version did run much better than the MSX version.
