Have you ever tried to equalize, but only one ear pops? Or maybe your ears feel tight, it takes ages to equalize, or you hear a squealing sound? This video is for you! In this video, I’ll show you a step-by-step exercise to help fix tight eustachian tubes, improve your equalization, and get you back to diving confidently. What You’ll Learn: The role of eustachian tubes in equalization. Why a “pop” isn’t always the goal—sometimes, it’s the sound of air passing through. How to perform a 5-step stretching exercise to loosen your eustachian tubes gradually. Our eustachian tubes connect our ears to the back of our throat and can sometimes become tight, especially if one side is smaller or less dominant. This stretching exercise, taught to me by an ENT specialist, helps gradually loosen those tubes using safe and controlled pressure. The 5-Step Stretching Exercise We’ll use five levels of stretching, increasing pressure slightly while holding for 10 seconds at each step: Level 1: A light equalization, holding constant pressure. Level 2: Slightly stronger equalization, maintaining steady pressure. Level 3: A firm equalization—airflow or slight movement may become noticeable. Level 4: A stronger stretch, still without any pain. Level 5: The strongest equalization, ensuring no discomfort. Important: Pain is a signal to stop. This exercise should never hurt. Many of Freediving Central’s clients with tight eustachian tubes have seen amazing results. I personally use this technique for 5 minutes in the morning and evening during the week before my dives, especially after a break. Important Note: I’m not a doctor or ENT specialist, but an ENT professional shared this safe and effective technique with me. If you’re recovering from a cold or feeling blocked up, wait until you’re fully healed before trying this. Let me know in the comments how this exercise worked for you!
