Astitva | Street Play - 2017-18 | Anukriti | Miranda House

Anukriti, the Hindi dramatics society of Miranda House, presents Astitva - its annual street play production for the session 2017-18. The play deals with the pressing issue of breaking the gender binary in an Indian context. Biological sex, gender identity, gender expression & sexual orientation are different from and independent of one another. Gender is an abstract & infinitely complex idea that means something different to every person. However, we have been confusing those terms with each other and limiting them into 2- male and female. By doing so, we have been outrightly rejecting multiple gender & sex identities, refusing to recognize their existence. With this play, we stand for recognition of each and every gender identity.
