Ten years ago, Mike Cove (NC Museum of Natural Sciences) discovered Burmese Pythons were behind the decline of the endemic Key Largo woodrat and other mammals in the Florida Keys. While these snakes are endangered in Southeast Asia, they are an invasive species in South Florida, and they are devastating the ecosystem. Cove ponders how easy it will be for Burmese pythons to travel to and take hold in North Carolina.
