Illustration of sedimentation process and the effect of the speed of the flow. Various grains with the same density but with different radious fall in a visquous liquid in motion. As the vertical speed of the particles depends on their radius, the biggest particles are the one with the highest speed and tend to deposit. But when the speed of the flow increase, even the biggest grains can be transported. Such observation can be partly related to the Hjulström diagram This very simple illustration of the sedimentation / transport process is realized with the software Algodoo.
