Winter Wainwrights from Borrowdale | Bleaberry Fell & High Seat | Frozen Bogs & Wild Winds

A proper wintry day in the Lake District Central Fells as we tackle two classic Wainwrights — Bleaberry Fell and High Seat — starting from Borrowdale. We catch the bus up to Calfclose Bay before climbing alongside Cat Gill (not quite the “gradual ascent” the sign suggests!). With strong winds, icy paths, and surprisingly frozen bogs, this turned out to be one of the best conditions for crossing these notoriously wet fells. Along the way we enjoy stunning views of Skiddaw, Blencathra, Helvellyn, Derwent Water, and the surrounding Central & Northern Fells. We also pass the intriguingly named Threefooted Brandreth, battle the exposed summit of High Seat, and make a speedy descent via Ashness Bridge to avoid missing the bus.
