If you’re looking for something to do this weekend, then why not check out the 7th annual Connecticut Surfcasters Association Demo Day and Extravaganza? The event is once again being held at the Clinton, Connecticut Town Hall. Doors open to the public at 9 am, and there is a requested $5 donation for entry. There is an extensive list of commercial vendors which will be on hand as well as used tackle for sale by club members. They also have several free seminars and ongoing demos running throughout the day. Check out the full event listing at TheFisherman.com. On the fishing front, freshwater is the biggest game in town with anglers hitting both the ice where fishable ice remains or open water where last week’s mini-melt freed up a few spots. Regardless of how you’re getting a line in the water, the target species remain much the same as last week: perch, pike, pickerel, panfish, bass, trout and walleye. All of these species hit this week’s reports and across every corner of New England. I hit the ice a couple times since last week’s report and found excellent action on both perch and walleye. This is turning out to be quite the ice fishing season, so be sure to take advantage of it while the fishing remains hot. The story was also similar to last week’s report on cod as the weather was once again the limiting factor. There were only a few sailing trips made and the results were mixed to poor at best. It seems like there is a large pile of bait still hanging on the fishing grounds, but for reasons only known to the fish, they were rather reluctant to feed. Last up, as I noted last week, it is almost the official kick-off of the 2018 fishing, hunting, boating and outdoor show season here in New England. The first official New England show for us at The Fisherman opens on the 26th when we’ll be at the New England Fishing & Outdoor Expo in Boxboro, MA. If you’d like a full look at where and when you can come see us here in New England, check out the 2018 Show Schedule posted in the News Section or check out the full events calendar today!
