Master Teaching Series: Finding the Best-Fit LLM for Your Purpose Presenters: Dr. Allison Roxburgh and Kaywin Cottle, Teaching & Educational Studies Description: The big idea framing our presentation is how to critically examine different Large Language Models (LLMs). This interactive presentation provides a practical tool for faculty to evaluate Artificial Intelligent (AI) models. Attendees will gain direct experience with comparing multiple LLMs through supported explorations. This presentation will examine a web-based evaluation tool for attendees to engage in real-time testing for several common LLMs including ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini. Participants will use designed prompts that reveals key differences in how different models respond to academic tasks. During the exploration of different LLMs models, attendees will be asked guiding questions that support their critical evaluation of the AI outputs they receive. These questions include: How accurate are the responses? Which model's style fits your needs? How do the approaches to complex topics differ? This presentation helps attendees move beyond AI awareness to an understanding of how to critically evaluate AI outputs for their academic contexts.
