This is the first leg of our circumnavigation of Vancouver Island. Sucia Island in the morning, past Patos Island, up to Nanaimo on Vancouver Island. We visited Comox [fantastic], and into Desolation Sound, anchoring in several bays, including Refuge Cove, cruising all the way to the end of Toba Inlet. In Toba Inlet we experienced the power and beauty of the waterfall of Racine Creek. My intention is a video log our our cruising journey; it isn't short attention span tiktok-type content. But if you want to see what it's like to cruise from the top of the San Juan Islands up the Strait of George through Desolation Sound and you have some time (37.5 minutes if all at once) enjoy it. PATOS ISLAND, Northern tip of San Juan Islands NANAIMO, BC on Vancouver Island HORNBY ISLAND, TRIBUNE BAY COMOX on Vancouver Island (two nights) QUADRA ISLAND, DREW HARBOR / HARIOT BAY REFUGE COVE up deeper into the arms of DESOLATION SOUND TENEDOS BAY ATTWOOD BAY TOBA INLET (to the end past RACINE FALLS) BREM BAY (a bit exposed so we lucked into a slip at...) TOBA WILDNERNESS MARINA (sweeeeeet!) FRANCES BAY This video ends as we arise at Frances Bay...the next video will cover going through the three sets of "rapids" as we make our way forward. Life has unexpected twists and turns. We finished our trip around Vancouver Island in July/August 2024. I dedicate this video to my love and life-partner Sarah Drotning, a most capable and lovely shipmate. Now we are looking ahead to Alaska in summer 2025, California in autumn, and Sea of Cortez this winter. Subscribe and stay tuned for the video of Broughton Islands cruise and then the trip around Vancouver Island -- from Port Hardy to Hope Island to Winter Harbor to Nootka Sound to Tofino and back to Bellingham. The boat is Skoal, a Cabo Rico 42 Pilothouse -- one of three made with the pilothouse on the proven bluewater Cabo Rico hull and rig. She is strong and roomy and safe. The video was shot with my Google Pixel 8 in 4K. I need something better for zoom shots! Cap't Peter Hallett S/V Skoal Bellingham, WA
