The solitude and breathtaking natural beauty of theCederberg is captivating. Exposure to natural elements and a degree of freedom and isolation ensures a true wilderness experience that will draw you back for a follow-up visit. At elevations of up to 1,690m, there is often snow in winter. These heights are among the coldest places in the Western Cape in winter. But be warned, this climate is one of extremes, with temperatures ranging from -6°C to a sweltering 46°C on the karroid plains in summer. As the hills rise and fall, cascading through the undulating topography, one is immersed within the presence of the beckoning crimson mountain ranges that fold into one another. Enveloped by emerald-green landscapes that resolutely rise up to meet the road, you’d be forgiven for thinking it is here where the sands of time stood bravely still. Further ahead still, the road passes from one buoyant place to another, and a multitude of magnificent mountain passes that lead to the Koue Bokkeveld. The Breede River Valley is almost 130 kilometres long and in fact straddles three wine regions: Worcester, Robertson and Breedekloof. This makes it the Western Cape’s largest producer region, as the three areas account for about a third of the country’s vineyards and produce almost 40% of its wine. The region also runs the gamut in terms of vineyards, from small characterful wineries to larger co-operatives. The most common wines are made from vineyards along the valley floor, whereas the higher-end offerings originate in vineyards set in the foothills of the mountains surrounding the valley. The region is best known for producing rich, fruity red wines because the soils have extremely high limestone content, lending the wines minerality, depth and aromatic complexity. Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon are particularly widespread here, though a few local wineries have also started to produce sparkling wines made from the two legendary grape varieties that are Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. But more than this, the Breede River Valley is a fantastic setting that offers myriad tourist, recreational, gastronomic and historical activities, whilst also proving to be a true paradise for wine. 4 hours driving, showing 500 scenes taken no more than a minute apart. 0:00 Clanwilliam 4:06 Algeria camp 4:37 Uitkyk Pass 5:23 Driehoek 6:28 Dwarsrivier & Sanddrif 8:01 Kromrivier 10:06 Truitjieskraal 11:14 Cederberg Oasis 11:50 Nuwerus Farm 13:49 Mount Ceder 14:12 Grootrivierhoogte Pass 15:10 Aankoms padstal 16:52 Katbakkies Tankwa road 17:51 Die Dorp op die Berg 18:54 Gydo Pass 19:26 Prince Alfred Hamlet 20:37 Ceres 21:25 Michell's Pass 23:32 Slanghoek Valley 25:50 Dutoitskloof Cellar and Ou Meul restaurant 26:50 Hugenot Tunnel #southafrica #driving #roadtrip #4k #amazing #tourist #cederberg
