Part of my 30-Day Road Trip through the West. Originally headed toward Telluride and planning to camp near Crested Butte, this stretch of the road trip didn’t go as expected. I arrived in Crested Butte around midday on a Friday hoping to find dispersed camping off Gothic Road — an area I’ve camped before and loved — but every spot was taken. If you’re planning to camp there in summer, arriving by Thursday is your best bet. Instead, I continued over Kebler Pass — one of the most beautiful mountain drives in Colorado — and found something even better. 🏕️ Camping Erickson Springs Campground (along Kebler Pass, toward Glenwood Springs) • Arrived Friday late afternoon — plenty of sites available • Small, quiet campground along the river • Peaceful setting with hiking trails directly from camp Sometimes the best stops aren’t the ones you planned. Adventures are just around the bend.
