The Ray-Pic #waterfalls are a little gem of a tourist attraction, located in Monts d’Ardèche Regional #Nature Park, in the southern part of France. The site is easily accessible and great for families with kids, beginner hikers, or waterfall enthusiasts. As a matter of fact, it is among the most remarkable natural sights in the area, and its popularity with locals and tourists alike is due to the way it came to be. Ray-Pic used to be an active #volcano several thousands of years ago, spewing magma and shaping the surrounding landscape. Sometimes, its lava could flow for up to twenty one kilometers, leaving peculiar rock formations where it cooled. In the present day, the La Burges river has made a bed for itself through this terrain. Its water spurts from the volcano’s basalt columns and makes a couple of spectacular drops, creating the gorgeous cascade. Tourism France The waterfalls have a combined height of around sixty meters. The park authorities have built two viewing platforms that offer different vantage points: they will allow you to safely enjoy the beauty of the cascade, its pool, and the volcanic rock formation surrounding them. Keep in mind that even though the crystal clear water might seem tempting, especially in the summer heat, bathing is strictly prohibited due to the safety risks of falling rocks. The path leading to the site meanders through a peaceful beech tree forest, taking approximately twenty minutes to walk. There are plenty of information boards and signposts to help you successfully navigate and fully appreciate the natural #phenomenon of Cascade du Ray-Pic. This hike’s difficulty level is relatively low, making it appropriate for almost everyone; however, suitable sports or mountain shoes are still advisable.
